Job Description

The Caregiver/Respite Caregiver provides compassionate, person-centered care and flexible support across Community Homes' residential programs. This position assists residents with daily routines and personal care according to their negotiated care plans while providing both scheduled caregiving and respite coverage as needed. By building familiarity with residents across multiple homes, the Caregiver/Respite Caregiver helps ensure consistent, high-quality care while honoring each resident's rights, dignity, independence, and well-being. Essential Responsibilities: Personal Care for Residents: Assist with personal care tasks including bathing, dressing, feeding, personal safety, and other daily needs. Support transitions between home and community activities, including ACCESS transportation, work, and family visits. Administer medications as per the home’s policies and procedures. Household Management: Maintain cleanliness and safety within the home by following infection control procedures and using personal protective equipment. Prepare meals in accordance with residents’ dietary needs and preferences, employing proper food handling techniques. Documentation & Oversight: Document relevant information in resident logs or incident reports, including detailed descriptions, actions taken, and resident responses. Address resident and/or family grievances, changes in resident condition, and other care-related issues with appropriate follow-up. Communicate effectively in English with residents, their families, and authorized persons. Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation to the DSHS hotline, police (if necessary), and supervisor in accordance with home policies. Care Management Specific to Resident Disabilities: Implement behavioral intervention strategies for residents experiencing behavioral difficulties. Consider family input on managing challenging behaviors. Assist residents in creating a meaningful daily routine based on their interests. Collaboration and Scheduling: Meet with other care providers to become acquainted with residents, their individual care plans, and any specific needs or preferences. Provide vacation coverage for primary caregivers, ensuring continuity of care during their absence. General Expectations: Adhere to written daily schedules and instructions provided by the Care Provider. Maintain open communication with the Care Provider and Program Director regarding work issues, resident concerns, and operational matters. Interact professionally with residents, family members, DSHS personnel, ombudsmen, and other stakeholders. Respond appropriately to medical and emergency situations. Physical Requirements: Ability to navigate various landscapes within residential homes and the community. Proficiency in using a computer for planning and reporting tasks. Capability to provide full personal care for residents, including transferring, lifting, and carrying as needed. Shift Schedule: Work with Community Homes to establish a mutually agreeable shift schedule, including weekend days.
