The Commercial Truck Driver is a critical role within our logistics and supply chain division, responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transport of goods across regional and national routes. This position requires a professional with a high degree of responsibility, technical driving expertise, and a commitment to road safety. The ideal candidate will serve as the face of the company during deliveries, ensuring that cargo integrity is maintained from the point of origin to the final destination while strictly adhering to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company protocols.
Safely operate heavy-duty commercial vehicles (Class A) to transport goods along the East Coast corridor...Workers must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals in English, respond to official injuries, and make entries on reports and records.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
1. Vehicle Operation & Navigation: Safely operate heavy-duty commercial vehicles (Class A) in various weather conditions and traffic environments. Plan routes effectively using GPS and atlas tools to ensure on-time deliveries while avoiding restricted routes or low-clearance hazards.
2. Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct thorough daily inspections of the tractor and trailer (tires, brakes, lights, oil, and coolant levels). Document any mechanical issues or safety concerns immediately to the maintenance department to prevent breakdowns.
3. Cargo Management: Supervise or assist in the loading and unloading of freight. Ensure that all cargo is properly secured using straps, chains, or bolsters to prevent shifting or damage during transit. Verify the accuracy of bills of lading and shipping manifests.
4. Regulatory Compliance: Maintain accurate electronic logging device (ELD) records in strict accordance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations. Comply with all federal, state, and local traffic laws, including weight station requirements and hazardous materials protocols (if applicable).
5. Communication & Documentation: Maintain constant contact with dispatchers regarding delays, route changes, or accidents. Accurately complete all delivery paperwork, fuel receipts, and incident reports with high attention to detail.
6. Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic field maintenance when necessary and keep the vehicle cabin clean and organized. Represent the company brand by maintaining a professional appearance and a well-kept vehicle.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
1. Licensing: Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record (MVR). Additional endorsements (Tanker, Hazmat, or Doubles/Triples) are highly preferred.
2. Experience: A minimum of 12 months of verifiable experience operating heavy-duty tractor-trailers in long-haul or regional capacities.
3. Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate modern onboard computers, ELD software, and advanced routing applications. Familiarity with automated and manual transmissions.
4. Physical Stamina: Capacity to sit for extended periods, perform repetitive lifting (up to 50 lbs), and climb into and out of the cab or trailer frequently.
