Job Description

Evaporator Attendants/Sugar Boilers - 30 temporary full-time positions available in St. Martinville, LA From 10/01/2026 to 01/31/2027 at LASUCA. Operate steam pressure vessels to concentrate and cook sugar containing products. Follow cooking procedures to achieve the correct combination of temperatures and pressure to concentrate and crystallize sugar. 48 hrs/wk plus OT. OT Hours will vary and are not guaranteed. $16.16/hr; $24.24/hr OT based on a single workweek. Will be paid every 2 weeks via check by employer. LASUCA will make all deductions from worker's paycheck required by law. Shift work: will be required to work various 8 and 12 hr. shifts (12:00am-12:00pm; 12:00pm-12:00am; 4:30am-4:30pm; 4:30pm-4:30am; 6:00am-6:00pm; 6:00pm-6:00am; 8:00am-4:00pm; 4:00pm-12:00am; 12:00am-8:00am). Must be willing to work 7 days per week throughout grinding. No minimum education required. No on-the-job training provided. LASUCA will provide U.S. workers at least the same benefits, wages, and working conditions that will be offered or provided to H-2B workers. LASUCA will provide to the worker, without charge or deposit charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned. LASUCA guarantees to offer employment equal to at least 3/4's of the workdays of each 12-week period of the total employment period; and, if the guarantee is not met, the employer will pay the worker what the worker would have earned if the employer had offered the guaranteed number of days. The 12-week period will begin the first workday after the worker's arrival or the advertised contractual first date of need, whichever is later. Optional on-site lodging available to each temporary seasonal employee hired in the position. However, the reasonable cost of board ($141.39 per pay period), lodging, and facilities furnished to the employee will be deducted from the worker's paycheck (paid every 2 weeks). Although not required, transportation to and from living quarters to worksite will be available. However, the reasonable cost ($26.12 per pay period) of daily transportation to the worksite will be deducted from the worker's paycheck (paid every 2 weeks). Although not required, employees may take a bona fide meal period for 60 mins. on a daily basis. If voluntarily taken, the worker will not be compensated during the 60 min. period. Uniforms available for purchase voluntarily. If purchased, amount for uniform and cost of laundering ($16.90 per pay period) may be deducted from the worker's paycheck (paid every 2 weeks). Employees will not be required to wear uniforms. The worker will be reimbursed for transportation and subsistence expenses from the place from which the worker has come to work for LASUCA, whether in the U.S. or abroad, to the place of employment by check by the employer upon completion of 50% of the period of employment covered by the job order or earlier, if appropriate. This includes at least $16.78 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts. Also, LASUCA will provide or pay for the worker's outbound transportation and subsistence if the worker completes the job order period or is dismissed early. LASUCA will reimburse the H-2B worker in the first workweek the full cost for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government. LASUCA will provide or reimburse inbound and outbound transportation and daily subsistence costs for corresponding U.S. workers who are not reasonably able to return to their residence within the same workday. All applicants (U.S. workers or H-2B workers) must pass a drug test before being hired in the proffered position (pre-employment drug test required). One (1) month employment experience in job offered in a raw sugar mill is the minimum required. Higher pay may be available to workers with extensive experience.
