Job Description

Worker will perform manual livestock work on beef cattle ranching operations at employer worksites located in Coleman County and Williamson County, Texas. Worksites consist of multiple non-contiguous ranch properties with varied terrain, including open grazing pastures as well as rugged rangeland with hills, brush, rocky ground, and streams. Duties are performed outdoors in all weather conditions and require extensive walking, climbing, bending, lifting, and physical exertion on uneven terrain. Duties include: Feed and water beef cattle daily and monitor feed and water supplies, including checking and maintaining stock tanks, troughs, and natural water sources across all properties. During winter months, distribute rolled/round hay bales to cattle, including placing and positioning bales at feeding locations across varied and rough terrain. Herd, gather, drive, and move cattle between pastures and between ranch properties to ensure adequate access to forage and water, on foot or with assistance of vehicles or equipment as directed. Shift animals between grazing areas; segregate cattle by age, weight, and physical condition as directed. Observe and examine cattle daily to detect illness, injury, disease, or distress; report health concerns to the employer; assist with providing basic medical treatment such as administering medications or vaccinations as directed, or assist in arranging veterinary care. During calving season, locate newborn calves on pasture and rangeland, check calves for health and vigor, identify health needs, pair calves with cows, and provide care to newborn and young calves; assist cows with births as needed. Mark/tag livestock to identify ownership as directed. Assist with loading and unloading cattle for transport between properties. Inspect, maintain, and make minor repairs to fences, gates, pens, corrals, water systems, and related equipment. Clean pens, equipment, and facilities. Mix and distribute feed, mineral, and supplements in prescribed portions. Protect the herd by monitoring for predators and hazards. May operate or ride in trucks, tractors, ATVs/UTVs, and similar ranch equipment incidental to the performance of the livestock duties above, such as distributing feed and hay. Perform other duties related to the care, feeding, health, movement, and handling of beef cattle as assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the employer, who assigns tasks, provides instruction, and monitors work for quality and completion. No formal education or experience is required. Brief demonstration and on-the-job training provided.
