Job Description

JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse JOB SUMMARY To act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the healthcare team and supporting the philosophy, objectives and goals of the facility. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of individual patients including but not limited to adult, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients. Reports To: Director of Nursing, Administrator Supervises: None Classification: Non-Exempt QUALIFICATIONS Degree from accredited nursing program. Licensure as registered nurse in Nebraska. Perioperative experience preferred. OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works within the surgery department, ensuring a safe environment for optimal surgical outcome and acts as a patient advocate throughout the perioperative continuum of care. 2. Possess the skills required to perform hemodynamic monitoring, pain management, cardiac monitoring, vascular access device management and airway management. 3. Conduct individualized age-appropriate patient assessments and plan of care, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient's immediate condition or needs. 4. Knowledge of use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment, instruments and supplies. 5. Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons and documenting events. 6. Demonstrates applied knowledge base in areas of medical/surgical patient care, pain assessment and actions of pharmaceuticals and anesthetic agents, laboratory values, safety and legal issues and all emergency equipment. 7. Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills as a method of sound decision making. 8. Performs documentation duties on the floor and in the patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise. 9. Works as part of a team in delivering patient care. 10. Maintains CPR/ACLS certification. 11. Attends all mandatory in services and participates in staff meetings. 12. Remains flexible, adaptive and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches. 13. Treats all patients equally adopting the centers Patient Rights policy. 14. Reviews and carries out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner. 15. Willingness to assist with other duties when asked.
