Job Description

Perform manual labor tasks at construction sites. Duties include site cleanup, material handling, and assisting with general construction activities. Workers will use hand tools and may assist in operating basic equipment under supervision.

The Construction Laborer position performs the physical groundwork of concrete construction — including pouring, spreading, and finishing concrete on slabs, foundations, flatwork, and structural elements. Workers set and strip forms, tie rebar, and ensure proper concrete placement and curing. On the job site, they work under the direct direction of the foreman, maintain a clean and safe work area, and support the crew in meeting production goals and quality standards.

Hand Tools Used and Their Purposes:
• Concrete Rake – Pulls and spreads fresh concrete evenly across a formed area prior to screeding.
• Bull Float – A large, long-handled flat tool pushed across wet concrete immediately after screeding to smooth the surface and bring moisture to the top.
• Hand Float / Magnesium Float – Used for detail finishing on edges and smaller surface areas to achieve a smooth, even texture.
• Steel Trowel – Applied after floating to create a hard, dense, polished finish on the concrete surface.
• Edger – Run along the perimeter of a slab to create a rounded, finished edge that resists chipping.
• Groover / Jointing Tool – Cuts control joints into fresh concrete to manage where cracking occurs as the slab cures.
• Rubber Mallet – Used to tap and seat forms, stakes, and screeds into proper position.
• Tie Wire and Tie Wire Twister – Used to connect and secure rebar at intersections prior to the pour.
• Bolt Cutters / Rebar Cutter – Cuts rebar to required lengths for reinforcement placement.
• Shovel / Square Spade – Moves and distributes concrete in tight areas, cleans forms, and clears debris.
• Broom – Applied to a concrete surface to create a brushed texture for traction, particularly on driveways and walkways.
• Knee Boards – Flat boards the laborer kneels on to finish wet concrete without leaving impressions.

Workers assist in operating basic equipment under the direct supervision of a foreman or experienced crew member. This includes: concrete screeds (both manual and powered), concrete vibrators (used to eliminate air pockets and ensure proper consolidation during the pour), and small skid steers or power buggies used to move and deliver concrete to the work area. "Assisting" means the worker performs tasks such as guiding hoses, positioning equipment, monitoring the work area for safety, and supporting the equipment operator — but does not independently operate the equipment.

Employment period: Oct 1, 2026 – Nov 30, 2026
