Pruning and Plating Blueberries
Pruning includes:
Cut out any dead, diseased, or winter-damaged branches right down to the healthy wood or base.
Trim away any spindly growth close to the ground and branches that cross or rub against each other to improve airflow and sunlight.
Identify thick, gray, or lichen-covered canes older than 6 years at the base and cut 1 to 3 of them off completely at ground level to make room for new shoots.
Open up the middle of the bush into an open, vase-like shape
