Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor and will follow established procedures at all times. Workers will perform manual labor for the planting and cultivation of onions and the manual harvesting of sweet potatoes, alongside routine greenhouse tasks and incidental general farm maintenance under direct supervision.
During the onion planting phase, workers will plant and transplant crops using manual methods and basic hand tools such as shovels, spades, or hand trowels, or they may ride on a mechanical planter to assist with planting under close supervision. Cultivation tasks include moving down assigned rows to pull weeds, rake, hoe, remove debris, and lay or remove plastic mulch and irrigation pipes.
During the sweet potato harvest, workers will move down rows to hand-pick and dig produce using hand tools, placing it carefully into field containers. When containers are full, workers will carry them to a truck or small trailer for unloading, returning immediately to the assigned picking area to continue harvesting, and they may assist with loading harvested crops onto trailers as directed.
Harvested sweet potatoes and onions will be transported to the on-farm packing area where workers will grade and sort the vegetables on a packing line based on simple, visual criteria such as size, color, and quality. Workers will label and pack produce into containers, separate seed product as instructed, stack containers on pallets, and prepare boxes for storage or shipment, ensuring that more than 50 percent of the product handled is produced by the employer.
Greenhouse tasks include filling single-cell trays with soil medium, sowing seeds, moving trays to designated growing areas, and transplanting seedlings into individual containers along assigned greenhouse rows. Routine greenhouse upkeep involves hand-weeding, trimming plants, sanitizing tools and trays, and assisting with moving and placing irrigation hoses and components as directed. Workers will notify a supervisor if they observe equipment that appears damaged or not functioning properly, but they will not diagnose problems or perform mechanical repairs.
General Farm Maintenance and Other Activities: When primary work is temporarily unavailable due to weather conditions, crop conditions, operational needs, or other lawful business reasons, workers may be assigned miscellaneous incidental duties directly related to the agricultural operation. These duties will not replace or substantially reduce the availability of primary agricultural work. Incidental duties may include general cleanup of the worksite and fields; weeding, trimming, digging, cutting, topping, and removing weeds, vines, debris, and trash from fields and fence lines; routine laying and removal of plastic mulch and irrigation pipes; and routine laying, repositioning, connecting, disconnecting, flushing, and removal of drip irrigation lines under supervisor direction. Field sanitation activities may include cleaning and disinfecting harvest buckets, field bins, harvest trailers, hand tools, knives, and similar field equipment. Workers may also assist with washing and removing dirt and plant residue from harvest trailers, field bins, and agricultural equipment used in field operations.
As an incidental activity, workers may occasionally drive farm utility vehicles or low-horsepower tractors solely for transportation within the farm or for pulling empty or lightly loaded farm trailers under close supervision after receiving instruction. Such operation is incidental to the primary agricultural duties. Workers will not perform equipment setup, calibration, adjustment, maintenance, or repair. Additionally, workers may occasionally assist with raking and baling pine straw from a small area at the housing site and loading or unloading the bales as instructed for farm maintenance purposes.
