Workers will perform assigned duties as described in this clearance order and as instructed by their supervisors.
Harvest, Sorting, Grading & Packing Operations
Workers will perform entry-level manual labor to harvest, grade, size, sort, and pack pecans according to color, shape, size, appearance, feel, and quality in accordance with supervisor instructions. Manual harvest duties include collecting fallen pecans from the ground using hand tools or push-propelled pickers, ensuring thorough collection of mature nuts while discarding visibly damaged, unhusked, or diseased pecans and foreign matter. Workers will operate on assembly lines, sorting tables, and conveyer lines within the on-farm packing shed to separate pecans by size, shell integrity, and quality. Graded pecans will be placed into super sacks, boxes, or crates, marked, tagged, weighed, and recorded. Workers will assist with closing, stacking, loading, and moving packed containers onto trucks or within storage facilities. All packing house activities occur on-farm, handling predominantly (over 50%) employer-produced crops.
Orchard Maintenance & Field Care
Perform routine manual orchard care, including transplanting or planting new pecan trees, replacing compromised trees, picking up fallen limbs, clearing brush, and removing unwanted weeds by hand or with basic hand tools (hoes, trowels, shovels). Prune and thin trees using standard step ladders and hand tools (pruning shears, hooks, hand saws) strictly as demonstrated by the field supervisor; workers must not tear limbs or strip leaves. Assist with manual irrigation duties by carrying and laying pipes, clearing and digging ditches with pickaxes and shovels, and opening or closing water valves as directed. Use wheelbarrows to haul dirt, mulch, or concrete to fill washes in the field. Perform general farm cleanup, including washing, organizing, and storing basic hand tools, containers, and work areas to maintain a safe environment.
General Farm Maintenance & Incidental Activities
When primary work is temporarily unavailable due to weather conditions, crop conditions, operational needs, or other lawful business reasons, workers may be assigned miscellaneous incidental duties directly related to the agricultural operation. These duties will not replace or substantially reduce the availability of primary agricultural work. Such duties may include general cleanup of the worksite, farm property, and agricultural structures; weeding, trimming, digging, cutting, topping, and removal of weeds, vines, debris, and trash from fields and fence lines; routine installation and removal of plastic mulch and irrigation drip tape; and basic manual irrigation adjustments, such as reconnecting loose pipes, fixing drip tape leaks, or adjusting simple water valves. Field sanitation activities may include cleaning, washing, and performing routine sanitation of harvest buckets, bins, trailers, hand tools, and similar agricultural equipment. Workers may assist with washing, sweeping, and removing dirt and debris from farm vehicles and agricultural equipment, as well as reporting maintenance needs to supervisors. Workers will not perform mechanical repairs, servicing, or power equipment maintenance. Workers are responsible for keeping their assigned living quarters clean and orderly during non-work hours, and may assist with basic cleaning of common-use facilities as assigned during paid work hours to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
