Assist with silage-related tasks in support of operations during silage season; Prepare calf hutches and grounds for winter conditions, including inspecting hutches for damage and completing repairs, securing bedding, checking for and sealing gaps or cracks that let in cold air, and reinforcing structures against wind and cold before winter arrives; Open and close calf hutch vents/flaps as needed based on daily and seasonal weather conditions to maintain proper ventilation and calf comfort; Dump water from feeding buckets when temperatures fall below 30F, to prevent freezing and ensure calves have access to unfrozen water the next day; Lift hutch cages/pens ahead of snow events to prevent them from becoming buried or inaccessible under snow/ice accumulation; Respond to extreme weather events as needed, providing additional calf care and hutch adjustments during storms, deep cold, or other adverse conditions; Remove snow from inside calf hutches on snow days and replace bedding to keep calves dry and warm; Perform general hutch maintenance, including cleaning, repairs, and upkeep of hutches and surrounding areas; Begin de-winterizing procedures toward the end of the contract period in preparation for the spring/summer season; Perform related duties as assigned in support of calf ranch operations.
