Job Description

Workers will perform agricultural duties associated with land preparation, cultivating, maintaining, harvesting, field packing, packing, and preparing tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, and other listed vegetable crops for market. LAND PREPARATION : Workers may prepare fields, rows; remove weeds, rocks, roots, debris, and other materials from growing areas; ; lay, repair, and remove plastic mulch; stake, tie, prune, thin, weed, and cultivate plants; and perform other agricultural activities necessary for crop production. GROVE/FARM CARE AND CLEAN-UP: Workers may perform miscellaneous grove, farm, and field clean-up and maintenance associated with agricultural production. Workers may remove debris, boxes, containers, discarded or damaged fruit and vegetables, weeds, plastic, and other materials from fields and growing areas. Workers may perform general farm maintenance related to the production and harvesting of crops.IRRIGATION, FERTILIZATION AND CROP CARE: Workers may install, set, move, maintain, and repair irrigation lines, drip tape, pipes, hoses, fittings, and related irrigation equipment. Workers may irrigate and fertilize crops.HARVESTING: Workers will harvest tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, and other listed vegetables by hand and/or with appropriate harvesting tools. Workers will select produce according to maturity, size, quality, and condition. Workers may pick, clip, cut, pull, or otherwise remove produce from plants and place harvested produce into buckets, bags, boxes, crates, bins, or other appropriate containers.FIELD PACKING: Workers may sort, grade, size, count, inspect, clean, and field-pack harvested tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, and other listed vegetables. Workers may remove damaged, diseased, immature, overripe, or otherwise unmarketable produce; assemble and prepare boxes and containers; fill, close, stack, and move packed containers; and prepare harvested produce for transportation to the packing facility, storage area, or market.PACKING SHED: Workers may perform agricultural packing activities involving crops covered by this job order. Workers may receive harvested produce from the field; unload and place produce on packing lines or designated work areas; wash, clean, sort, grade, size, inspect, count, weigh, and pack produce according to quality and size specifications. Workers may assemble cartons, boxes, bins, trays, and other packing containers; place produce into containers; weigh, close, seal, label, and stack containers; and prepare packed produce shipment.Workers may clean and sanitize packing areas, work surfaces, containers, equipment, and tools associated with handling and packing agricultural products. FARM EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS: Workers may load, unload, carry, and move boxes, bins, containers, harvesting supplies, irrigation materials, agricultural products, tools, and other materials used in agricultural operations. Workers may move and operate tractors and other farm machinery or equipment .Workers will be paid no less than the applicable wage required under the H-2A program. The employer will provide workers with the required work contract or approved job order in accordance with applicable H-2A requirements. Shuttle drivers are responsible for transporting workers between employer-provided housing and the worksite. In addition to driving duties, they conduct field walks, assist with timekeeping, fill workers’ water containers each morning, and help ensure field sanitation standards are maintained throughout the workday. Shuttle drivers also provide weekly transportation for essential errands, including grocery shopping and check cashing. This position is classified within this job category because more than 80% of the the duties are performed in the field. The employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker.
