Job duties include mucking out stalls, feed preparation and distribution, cleaning and refilling water containers, grooming and bathing, cleaning tack, bandaging legs, tacking up, and administering basic first aid for cuts and scrapes.
o Walk horses after exercise.
o Bathe and cool down horses after exercise.
o Walk horses or place them in a hot walker following exercise.
o Bring horses in and out of stalls, paddocks, or other designated areas.
o Hold horses for routine care and treatment, including for the farrier, veterinarian, and other equine professionals as needed.
On-Call Requirement
o The position generally requires the worker to be on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, only in the event of emergencies involving the horses, such as a horse escaping, becoming ill or injured, or other horse situations requiring immediate attention.
Work Schedule
o Monday through Saturday: 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (6 hours per day).
o Every other afternoon: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (1 additional hour).
o Every other Sunday: Off.
o When a Sunday is worked: 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
o The regular work schedule averages 39 hours per week.
