Job Description

Oyster Delicacy, LLC seeks fifty-five (55) temporary full-time Seasonal Oyster Plant Workers to work in the employer's oyster processing facility located at 4889 W. Main Street, Houma, Louisiana 70360, Terrebonne Parish. Employment is temporary and will begin on October 1, 2026, through June 1, 2027. Employees will work 40 hours per week, with no overtime anticipated, and will be paid weekly. Duties: Workers will sort incoming live oysters using shaking tables or by hand, separating oysters according to size, shell color, and overall condition. Selected workers will shuck oysters by hand using oyster knives and other manual extraction tools, carefully removing the edible meat from the shells. Oyster meat will then be weighed, placed into containers, sealed, and labeled for shipment and distribution. Other workers will clean whole oysters using pressurized washers, brushes, or rotating cleaning equipment to remove algae, mud, and other debris from shell surfaces. After cleaning and processing, oysters and oyster meat will be packed into containers, insulated ice chests, or shipping boxes for transportation to wholesale buyers, restaurants, retailers, and industrial customers. Workers will operate pallet jacks and hand trucks to move oysters, oyster meat, packaging materials, and finished products throughout the processing facility. Workers may rotate among assigned duties throughout the workday based on production needs. All workers must follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures and wear employer-provided personal protective equipment, including gloves, aprons, and safety glasses. The employer will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages due. The wage offered will equal or exceed the highest applicable prevailing wage or the Federal, State, or local minimum wage, as required by law. The employer will reimburse H-2B workers in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other government-required fees (excluding passport fees). Transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker comes to work for the employer will be provided or reimbursed, consistent with applicable H-2B regulations. Upon completion of the work contract, or if the worker is dismissed early for reasons other than misconduct or voluntary abandonment, the employer will provide or pay the reasonable cost of return transportation and daily subsistence to the place from which the worker originally departed to work for the employer or to the worker's next H-2B employer, when applicable. Transportation reimbursement will be based upon the most economical and reasonable common carrier available. Daily subsistence during travel will be paid at a rate of at least $16.78 per day, up to $68.00 per day with receipts, as permitted by applicable regulations. All deductions required by law will be made from workers' paychecks. The employer will have furnished lodging available at 4903 W. Main Street, Houma, Louisiana 70360, with fully equipped kitchens where workers may prepare their own meals. Workers who voluntarily choose to reside in the employer-provided lodging will pay $160.00 per month, utilities included, through payroll deduction. Workers who choose not to reside in the employer-provided lodging and instead secure their own housing will not have this deduction made from their paychecks. Public transportation is available to the employer's designated central pickup location at 337 Broadway Avenue, Schriever, Louisiana 70395 for workers who choose not to reside in the employer-provided lodging. The employer will provide daily transportation at no cost to workers between the employer-provided lodging or the designated central pickup location and the worksite, with return transportation provided at the end of each workday. The employer will also provide transportation to workers on Saturdays to the grocery stores to purchase their groceries for the week at no cost.
