To remove snow and ice from job sites, scaffolding and walkways, the workers will clear
sidewalks, walkways, and similar pedestrian areas using snow shovels and snow blowers. Parking
lots and larger work areas will be cleared using snow shovels and skid steers. Workers will spread
rock salt by hand or with a salt spreader to remove ice and reduce slipping hazards.
To maintain site accessibility, workers will clear-snow covered debris from walkways, work areas,
and access points using shovels, brooms, and rakes, and will dispose of debris in designated
dumpsters or waste areas.
In the assistance of setting up temporary enclosures, tarps, and wind barriers, under the supervision
of the carpenter or project manager, Carpenter Helpers will perform basic carpentry tasks, such as
measure and cut dimensional lumber using standard carpentry hand and power tools, nail or screw
the lumber together to create a temporary frame to erect temporary tents for exterior masonry work
during cold weather. Reinforced plastic sheeting is stapled to the frame to create a weatherresistant temporary tent that protects the work area from cold temperatures and wind, allowing
exterior masonry work to continue.
To prevent weather-related materials damage, workers will cover and secure job site materials
such as lumber and equipment with tarps or move them to sheltered storage. Workers will also
assist with securing, adjusting, dismantling, and storing temporary tents, and tools and equipment
used in the performance of their duties.
The tools, equipment, machinery, and materials used to perform these duties include snow shovels,
snow blowers, skid steers, salt spreaders, rock salt, dimensional lumber, reinforced plastic
sheeting, hammers, drills, circular saws, screwdrivers, staple guns, nails, screws, staples,
scaffolding equipment, and other standard carpentry hand and power tools.
***Original Duties***
As a carpenter helper, the worker will perform duties requiring less skill, including using, supplying, or holding materials or tools, and cleaning the work area and equipment as directed by the carpenter or project manager. Under supervision, the worker will assist with framing tasks such as installing floors, exterior and interior walls, cabinets, trim, and windows for new construction projects. The worker will use and handle tools such as hammers, speed squares, drills, saws, and screwdrivers, and will maintain clean and organized worksites. During winter months and cold-weather conditions common in Sioux Falls, SD, the worker may also be required to remove snow and ice from job sites, scaffolding, and walkways to ensure safe working conditions; assist with setting up temporary enclosures, tarps or wind barriers; handle and store materials to prevent weather-related damage; support the use of heaters or ground thawing equipment under supervision; and maintain site accessibility by clearing snow-covered debris. The worker will receive on-the-job training as needed and perform other related duties as assigned by the carpenter or project manager.
