Job Description

Job Duties & Responsibilities
1Equipment Preparation
• Equipment Prep: Service, test, and winterize tractors, skid steers, and mixing wagons to prepare for the feeding season.
• Cold-Weather Care: Check fluid levels, grease fittings, anti-freeze, and battery conditions daily.
• Shop Organization: Organize tools and service shop to maintain a clean, safe workspace.
Active Winter Feeding & Fence Care
• Daily Feeding: Operate mixing wagons, loaders, and tractors to distribute precise feed rations to livestock.
• Fence Line Repair: Walk, inspect, and fix perimeter and sorting fences damaged by weather or livestock.
• Maintain Water Systems: Break, melt, and check ice in stock tanks and automated water systems daily.
• Monitor Herd Health: Observe cattle behavior and physical conditions daily for signs of illness or injury.
• Log Feed Records: Maintain accurate daily logs of feed ingredients used and head counts.
Infrastructure Maintenance & Cattle Off-Movement
• Bedding Management: Haul, break, and spread bedding straw in calving facilities and shelter sheds.
• Clear Snow: Shovel and plow snow around barns, gates, and water tanks to maintain safe access.
• Clean Feed Infrastructure: Keep feed storage bins, bunks, and mixing areas dry and free of old feed.
• Herd Transition: Assist with sorting and herding cattle off the property as they clear out by the middle of March


Employer provided items (at no cost to the worker): All tools and equipment necessary to perform the duties assigned as well as transportation between worker(s) on-site housing and the work site. A cell phone or two-way radio will be provided for emergency and ranch communications at no cost to the worker (excluding long distance charges).Worker must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. The job entails working with machinery, outdoors in all types of weather (extreme heat, wind and cold) and occasional exposure to herding hazards such as poisonous snakes and predators. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Drivers' License is required.
